Spring Couture

Couturiers have taken to the Paris runways and of course you would all know by now that I am bursting with excitement over these incredibly beautiful designs. For those of you who have been following my blog since starting it in July last year, you may remember that my first ever post was indeed following the designs of past season's haute couture, so I'd just like to mark this post as a thank you to all of you who are still reading!

Although I would love to go through each designer one by one, I've decided to limit the post to five houses that have captured my ultimate apraisal and none should come as a surprise.

CHANEL

"These are flowers God had forgotten to create. They don’t really exist these kind of flowers." - Karl Lagerfeld

Edwardian hats, puffy veiled Cara-inspired beanies, flat black boots, midriffs left right and centre, full, slouchy midi skirts, colour-block staple Chanel skirted suits all graced Lagerfeld's white paper jungle. All stitched, feathered, embellished and embroidered with beads, sequins and silk, the most beautiful flowers came to life.

DOLCE & GABBANA - ALTA MODA

Inspired by the ballet, Dolce and Gabbana brought the height of couture royalty to the finale of a week of couture. Theatrical drama, which is what I admire most about Domenica Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, echoed through designs. Exquisite creations of genius were embellished with sequins and crystals, nothing short of the divine.

To finalise, fantasy gowns made their way amongst fashion crowd gathered at the show decorated in silk prints of a 1950's programme for Romeo e Giulietta.

ELIE SAAB

Sequins, silks and feathers. Everything that makes Elie Saab the epitome of glamour and elegance was embodied in every one of the 55 gorgeous couture gowns.

Elie Saab is a dream for any girl/woman alike who grew up wanting to be a ballerina, or princess. As petals and butterflies emerged interlaced in the gowns, it became apparent that just as Chanel, Armani, Ralph & Russo and many others, nature has proved an inspiration behind this collection.

GIAMBATTISTA VALLI

A fresh take on Giambattista Valli's usual sculptural, floral silhouettes were embodied beautifully for his SS15 couture set.

Embroidered tops, skirts and dresses, ruffled sleeves and fur coats all took their stance on a runway illustrating that of an Italian garden of carpets.

If Italian couture wasn't enough for you, maybe knowing that Rihanna wore the finale dress of the collection to the Grammy's will change your mind.

RALPH & RUSSO

Delicate pastel florals dominated the set,  interspersed by a penetration of black ensembles beautifully garnished with silk petals. As so many other houses this season, embroidered and 3D flowers, petals, beads, spice and all things nice were embellished into garments creating oh so beautiful designs.

Candyfloss pinks, champagnes and lilacs took to the palette creating the fresh, whimsical silhouettes that I love so much. This collection is indeed a fairytale come true.
